Condition, explained

Clarity before you buy.

A condition label is a starting point. The photographs, recorded tests, and item-specific notes tell the rest of the story.

Cosmetic condition and functionality are different.

A clean exterior does not prove that every function works. Read the recorded testing results, known faults, and included-item list for each product. Unrecorded checks are not verified.

The guide below describes proposed Summit classifications. Existing inventory uses marketplace condition codes and historical free-text descriptions. Grades will be assigned only after an item-specific review; older records are not automatically reclassified.

New / Open Box

New describes an item identified as new in its record. Open box describes opened packaging or related circumstances recorded for the item. Packaging, completeness, and functionality must be described separately.

Excellent

Proposed cosmetic grade: little visible wear. It does not imply manufacturer refurbishment, a warranty, or comprehensive functional testing.

Good

Proposed cosmetic grade: visible wear consistent with use. The individual listing should describe notable marks, defects, and any recorded checks.

Fair

Proposed cosmetic grade: more pronounced wear or cosmetic damage. Review photographs and condition notes carefully. Functionality is described separately.

Parts / Repair

An item offered for parts, repair, or with known functional problems. It should not be assumed to operate. Only specifically documented tests and observations apply.

What our inspection words mean

Inspected: a stated visual or physical check, when documented. Tested: the specific functional checks recorded for that item, with their results and limitations.

Certified: part of the Summit Certified Direct brand name. It does not represent independent third-party certification, manufacturer authorization, or universal testing. Any actual certification must be explicitly identified and supported on the product page.

The details to look for

Product records can include a visual inspection, power-on results, functional checks, missing components, cosmetic defects, inspection date, and testing notes. Manufacturer specifications, seller observations, and unverified details are identified separately.

Before buying, review the actual photographs and the description on the authorized marketplace listing.
